Ray Skillman Classic Cars is a great place for a car club event

If your car club is in central Indiana, or will be visiting the area, consider holding an event at Ray Skillman Classic Cars in Greenwood, Indiana.

A couple of months ago, the White River Valley Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America visited Skillman’s facility and was impressed with the collection of cars mostly from the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s.

The Corvette collection is anchored by a white 1954 convertible and continues on to represent the model years through 2008 with that year’s Indianapolis 500 pace car. The rows of muscle cars include the car that started the use of term—a 1964 Pontiac GTO—with a 1967 Shelby Cobra GT 350 fastback thrown in for good measure.

Representing a multitude of 1950’s cars are a 1954 Kaiser Darrin convertible, a 1955 Ford Thunderbird, a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria, a group of 1957 Chevrolet Hardtops, Convertibles and a Nomad, a coral pink 1958 Chrysler 300D, and a rose 1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville with iconic tailfins.

Offerings from the 1960s include a 1960 Edsel Ranger convertible with continental kit (Who had a garage stretched long enough for this baby?), a 1961 Pontiac Ventura drag racer, a 1964 Studebaker Avanti R2, a 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 convertible, and a 1969 Dodge Super Bee 426 Hemi.

Scattered around the facility is a vintage sign collection. The signs cover popular makes, accessories, and eating places from the 1950s and 1960s. (When was the last time you saw an original Dog n Suds drive-in sign?)

A “Behind the Scenes” tour of the restoration shops, where less than perfect finds are turned into the gems on the showroom floor, is sometimes offered too. Skillman’s office and boardroom on the mezzanine level overlook the collection.

All of the more than 240 cars in the facility are for sale. They appear to be in well-restored or excellent original condition. Seeing the cars allowed the visitors to step back in time and reminisce.

I invite you to call Merle Van at 1-888-521-0723 to schedule a club visit or take a virtual tour at www.RaySkillmanClassicCars.com.
