Are high prices and the slumping economy keeping you from traveling?
I invite you to visit an Indiana auto museum and save money.

The recent economic troubles are just another indicator of how hard American travelers are getting hit financially. Indiana has over 12 museums or collections that have some automotive emphasis. For those living in or near Indiana, I invite you to visit one or several of the state’s auto museums and save money.

“With so many people traveling across the country to visit the museum, we hear many comments about higher prices and how it affects our visitors,” Gran Roberts, marketing director at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum notes.

While high travel costs hurt business from out-of-area tourists, that is not the case with local tourists ”With prices being so high, I have limited my travel to taking day trips,” said Jonathan Kilmer of Decatur, Indiana. “I have found entertainment locally that I thought would be fun to visit, and I wouldn’t have to deal with the high price of gas. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum was one of the places that my family decided to visit, and it is within an hour from home. It saves us money at the pump, plus our visit has been very entertaining for my family. Even my kids had a great time!” said Kilmer.

“I am very happy that I decided to plan a trip to visit the museum. I have lived in this area for over 20 years and had not visited until now. I can see why people come from across the country to visit this wonderful museum. Even if the gas prices ever go down, I will be coming back again soon!” said Linda Myers of Hicksville, Ohio.

If you are visiting northern Indiana to see Indiana-built cars, you have the choice of six museums in addition to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. In fact, the National Automobile and Truck Museum of the United States is right next door. Traveling west you could stop in at Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum in Shipshewana, the Recreational Vehicle and Motor Home Hall of Fame in Elkhart, the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, the LaPorte County Museum in LaPorte, and the Rag Tops Museum in Michigan City.

Central Indiana has five offerings. In Kokomo see the City of Firsts Automotive Heritage Museum and the Elwood Haynes Museum. Then traveling across the National Road from east to west, visit the Wayne County Historical Museum in Richmond, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – Hall of Fame Museum in Speedway, and the Clabber Girl Museum in Terre Haute.

Before visiting any of these museums or collections, we suggest you contact the site to verify the hours of operation. Happy travels to you.
